Our Education Committee
The SDBPA's Education Committee charge is to promote learning, participation, and enjoyment of the game of bridge for players of all skill levels. Its mission includes several key goals:
Teaching & Developing Players
Educational opportunities for beginners, intermediate, and advanced players through lessons, workshops, supervised play, mentoring, and seminars.
Improving Player Skills
Help members strengthen their understanding of bidding, play, defense, etiquette, and strategy through organized instruction and practice.
Supporting Lifelong Learning
Foster an environment where players continue to learn and challenge themselves regardless of experience level.
Building Community
Encourage friendship, sportsmanship, and social connection through educational events and collaborative learning activities.
Promoting the Game of Bridge
Increase awareness of bridge as an intellectually stimulating and social activity that supports critical thinking, memory, and partnership communication.
Upcoming Committee Initiatives
The Education Committee is pleased to inform the membership of some of the exciting upcoming events that are in store for later this year:
- 1.
A new Mentorship Program will get underway in August. The mentorship chair will be matching beginner/novice players with advanced players in a monthly Pro-Am game on Fridays.
- 2.
A series of lessons for Beginners will begin in early September and will be offered on Tuesday mornings.
- 3.
Plans are underway to have an accomplished Bridge instructor from our Local Unit 119 provide a lesson on 2 Over 1 to our membership.
- 4.
Tom Dressing will continue to provide his "Tom Talks" to interested members through the winter months, honing in on a variety of Bridge topics to sharpen everyone's game.
